Why the 100% Stainless Steel Columbarium Rocks

Engineering

We made the investment to convert to a 100% stainless steel columbarium because it provides so many benefits to our clients.

Background

Stainless steel is a metal alloy (mixture) made primarily of iron and carbon. Here’s some “enginerd” (engineering nerd) trivia: What makes stainless steel rust-proof is its high chromium content. Steel must have a minimum chromium percentage (11%) to be qualify as stainless.

Many applications use this metal: hospitals, implants, restaurants, cookware, transportation – and buildings. The Chrysler Building is one of the most famous uses.

Stainless steel was invented by Harry Brearley. He was a British metallurgist in the 19th century.

Extreme Durability

While stainless steel is not easy to work, it is worth the effort to produce a durable product. We have invested in multiple pieces of sophisticated equipment to process the metal properly.

Stainless steel is rust-proof. Galvanized steel, on the other hand, is rust-resistant. Plain steel will rust fairly rapidly. (Rust assumes the presence of oxygen and moisture.)

This metal is more durable than traditional columbarium materials like granite, concrete or wall board.

Cost Savings

Stainless steel is incredibly light, considering how durable it is. It is easier to handle and less expensive to ship than other columbarium materials.

100% Stainless Steel

This point is important. A system shouldn’t be stainless steel – with some exception like the hardware or some other component. Any part that isn’t stainless steel introduces a point of weakness. It also introduces a possible physical incompatibility with the stainless steel.

In the Architarium columbarium system, the niche, niche door, modular frame and hardware are all stainless steel.
